I'm Jeremy Crane — a product development leader with 20+ years building software products. I think out loud here about how modern products get built, organized, prioritized, and what AI is actually doing to all of it.
Thinking "Outloud"
- Will We Finally See the End of the Product vs. Project Debate with AI? April 2, 2024 The product vs. project debate has been going on for years. AI might finally settle it — by making the distinction irrelevant.
- A tool, not an identity January 25, 2024 AI is transformative, but it's a tool in the toolkit — not a brand identity. Remember when everyone was a 'dot com' company?
- Organize for what you want to be a given then put energy into the rest January 23, 2024 Org structure in product development is important, but there is no one size fits all. Every team must define what works for them based on core principles.
- What will software eat next? January 11, 2024 Software development is moving from tasks to goals, and everything is ripe for rethinking
My Personal Product Beliefs
- No One Size Fits All — learn from others, but don't follow blindly
- Organize for the Given — structure for what needs to be free, then put energy into the rest
- Small Teams Build Faster — two devs, a PM, and a designer can do astonishing things
- Clarify Ambiguity — name the assumptions so the team is solving the same problem
- Reduce Friction — before you try to exceed expectations, make sure people can use the thing
- AI Is Going to Change Everything — the impossible is now possible
